Why "Waiting" Benefits The Kevin J Lederer Life Foundation
Imagine struggling to have a baby for years at a time. Miscarriages, pregnancy tests reminding you monthly that you still aren't pregnant, doctors who tell you they don't know why you aren't conceiving and want to refer you on to a specialist.
Prenatal vitamins and diagnostic tests like hysteropingograms are often covered by insurance when a doctor declares them medically necessary for a vitamin deficiency or a medical issue, such as Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. But when a Doctor declares them necessary for fertility/infertility issues, they are no longer covered by insurance (in most states.)
Only 15 states in the United States currently mandate private insurance providers cover some portion of infertility diagnosis or treatments---state laws vary widely and only 5 of those 15 states require insurance cover in-vitro fertilization (IVF.)
Imagine struggling to have a baby---month after month, year after year---and putting your body or your partner's body through all the grueling and expensive diagnostic testing only to be told that IVF or adoption are your only hope for creating the family you desire---while knowing these opportunities are out of reach financially.
The out-of pockets costs for IVF and/or adoption can be astronomical. Infertility is difficult enough, without the worry and despair added economic burdens bring.
This is why I am so pleased a portion of the proceeds of "Waiting" benefit the Kevin J. Lederer Life Foundation and their work to increase infertility education and access to family building through grants for infertility treatments or adoption. Theirs is a mission very close to my heart.

The mission of the Kevin J. Lederer Life Foundation is to promote health and alleviate the mental and physical distress of individuals and couples diagnosed with infertility through education and financial assistance.
As part of its mission, the Life Foundation offers two key programs: patient education seminars and webinars and Healthcare professional educational events; and financial assistance for infertility treatment or adoption.
